Mr. Ryan McCarthy is the Sous Chef for The Academy at Penguin Hall. With nearly twelve years of culinary experience, Chef McCarthy works alongside Executive Chef Richard Mandelbaum and manages all aspects of daily kitchen management, including food production and event preparation. In his new role, Chef McCarthy looks forward to exploring his culinary creativity and hopes to introduce students to a variety of new foods.
Prior to joining Penguin Hall, Chef McCarthy served as Sous Chef for the Guckenheimer Café at New England Biolabs. Working with Chef Mandelbaum during his time there, Chef McCarthy assisted with food production, trained and managed kitchen staff, and covered various culinary stations. Prior to his time with Guckenheimer, Chef McCarthy served in a variety of positions under award-winning Executive Chefs from Nantucket to Boston, including the Trade Restaurant, Proprietor’s Bar and Table, The Tin Whistle and Restaurante Molise.
Ryan has an associate degree in Culinary Arts from North Shore Community College. In Ryan’s free time, he enjoys trying new restaurants, taking walks with his dog, and spending quality time with family and friends.
