The APH Make-A-Wish Club Grants Bedroom Makeover Wish

Service to the community is woven into the fabric of Penguin Hall. In past years, students have volunteered on service trips to Haiti and New Orleans and Latvia. They have worked to ease hunger and homelessness, to help protect animals and the environment. Through community service, students are invited to discover what will be a lifelong desire to work towards compassion, justice, and equality in the world around them.

The APH Make-A-Wish Club’s mission is to give back to the community in the form of wishes for children with critical illness between the ages of 2 ½ – 18. Led by Christina Autilio ‘22 and Anya Levoshko ‘22, the Make-A-Wish Club organized fundraisers to reach their goal: to grant Myah her wish of a bedroom makeover! From selling ornaments during the holiday season, to hosting a raffle at the Spring Arts Festival, the Make-A-Wish Club were able to grant Myah’s wish!

At Morning Meeting on Tuesday, November 9, the Make-A-Wish Club presented a check of $7,019 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapter. The Chapter’s Community Partnerships Manager, Hillary Muntz, received the check on its behalf. Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island issued the following story, thanking Penguin Hall for all they’ve done to make Myah’s wish come true:

“Myah is an energetic six-year-old who loves eating ice cream, making sticker creations, and playing with her puppy. Diagnosed with complex congenital heart disease, she has endured more than most children her age with grace and a positive attitude. Looking to create a space that reflects her colorful personality, Myah wished for a room redecoration!

With a fresh coat of paint, a new rainbow-themed bed with comfy throw pillows, a custom castle design on the wall, and fun colored lights, Myah was overjoyed to see her room transformed. Now, her bedroom is a place where her imagination can soar and it serves as the perfect retreat for relaxing and leaving the worries of her illness behind.

Through your generous contribution, Myah has been granted unforgettable memories she will cherish forever as she continues her journey. Thank you for standing with our wish children.”

Coming soon, the club will be hosting a holiday fundraiser with raffles and since it was such a hit last year, selling ornaments and bracelets again, too. If you would like to help APH Make-A-Wish Club grant more wishes for children in need, follow this link to donate today.
